FOB terms show where delivery responsibility changes. People often confuse FOB shipping point with FOB destination. The difference affects freight cost, risk, transport control, and inventory timing. Although shipping container dimensions affect loading plans, they do not decide when risk changes hands. This guide uses the common U.S. commercial meaning. The contract can change the usual result, so both parties should name an exact delivery point.

Shipping container dimensions describe more than a box’s length, width, and height. They include the external size, internal loading space, door opening, cubic capacity, and weight limits. Each figure answers a different question. External measurements show whether the unit fits ships, cranes, chassis, and terminals. Internal measurements show whether the cargo fits inside. Door measurements show whether workers can load the cargo through the entrance.

U.S. import taxes are government charges collected when goods enter the United States. People often use this term for customs duties, extra tariffs, and customs fees. However, these charges are different. A customs duty depends on the product, customs value, and country of origin. An extra tariff comes from a trade action. A customs fee covers entry processing or port use. State tax is separate from federal border charges.

A June 9, 2026 market snapshot places basic ocean freight at about USD 2,050–4,550 for a 20-foot container. It places the rate for a 40-foot container at about USD 2,600–5,550 (Sky). These figures are broad reference ranges. They are not guaranteed prices. The exact live rate is unknown without the loading port, destination, cargo details, ready date, and service terms.

A supplier’s factory quote may cover only one part of the final import cost. Beginners often search for “ex work price” when they see this type of offer. The standard terms are “ex-works price” and “EXW price.” This guide explains EXW in simple terms.

International shipping uses short trade terms, but one code can divide costs and risks in a surprising way. CPT Incoterms is an example. The seller pays for transport to an agreed destination, but the buyer may carry the risk much earlier. This guide explains the rule in simple terms.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection has issued new entry guidance for Section 301 tariffs connected to forced-labor import policies. The action covers imports from 60 economies and starts at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on July 24, 2026.

North American ports connect factories, consumers, railways, and highways across a large trade network. This article ranks the region’s leading container gateways. It also explains how the largest ports in the US compare with major ports in Canada and Mexico. For a clear comparison, “North America” refers to the three USMCA countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico. This ranking uses calendar-year 2024 container throughput. The figures include loaded and empty containers.

A shipping container is a reusable steel box made for transport by ship, rail, and truck. A 20ft general-purpose container is often called a 20GP. A 40ft general-purpose container is called a 40GP. The official ISO 668 standard classifies these containers and sets their main external dimensions and weight ratings (International Organization for Standardization).
